Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is among the most successful captains in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. In the upcoming IPL 11 season, Dhoni is back as Chennai Super Kings captain as the team has made a terrific comeback after a two-year ban due to the infamous spot-fixing scandal.
Dhoni has so far led CSK in 131 matches, winning 80 of them in IPL. He is also one of the only three captains to have won the cash-rich T20 league twice. Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma are the other two.
Besides captaincy, Dhoni is also known for hitting big with the bat in India’s own version of T20 league.
In 161 matches played so far in the IPL, Dhoni has amassed 3591 runs under his name, including 17 fifties. Dhoni has the timings and the ability to clear the boundary rope with ease. He has so far smashed 251 fours, sending the ball into the stands 157 times.
Besides the timing, Dhoni’s 45mm edge bat also plays a crucial part in clearing the ropes. Among the top Indian batsmen, Dhoni is the only cricketer who uses a bat with about 45mm edge.
Dhoni in 2013 has formed a partnership with Australia-based Spartan Sports. Since then, he has been using the bat with Spartan logo on it. According to reports, Dhoni inked a bat sponsorship deal worth Rs 25 crore.
