IPL Auctions 2017: Meet Tymal Mills who churned 24 times his base price, sold for Rs 12 cr!

The Bengaluru franchise has opted for him, probably citing small boundaries at Chinnaswamy which can be cleared at will.

Unknown quantity? I am sure not many media houses looked at him as the biggest earner during this years IPL 2017 player auction. He was pitted at a base price of Rs 50 lakh and he walks back home with 24 times that amount. Surreal, isn’t it? He has punched above his weight in real terms, literally! So who is this English, who has taken the auctions by storm. Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh would know more about him. Hailing from Yorkshire, a region that has contributed to cricket in many ways, Geoffrey Boycott to Joe Root and now a bowler, Tymal Mills. Rich history as they say. The young 24-year old has not played many International or domestic cricket, then to rope in Rs 12 cr is nothing short of a dream.

So, what actually got him noticed? He was there in the current tour to India with the English cricket team for the limited over games. Nobody took a lot of notice of him as he did not get a bulk of wickets, to garner attention but what he did extremely well, was being deceptive. A ball that he delivers from the back of his hand, without any change in speed of action of hand, a slower. The ball comes out as a tossed up delivery which never reaches the batsman. Yuvraj Singh knows it better, he got him dismissed of a ball that never reached the southpaw. It is a very, very strange delivery, of which comparisons cannot be drawn.

What makes him lethal is that he can also bowl the ball at 90 mph, which is stupendous!

So, the Bengaluru franchise has opted for him, probably citing small boundaries at Chinnaswamy which can be cleared at will.
