Delhi has rekindled its love for Afghani food and the perfect place to try the cuisine is at the food stalls of Lajpat Nagar's Afghan Market.

Over the years, the arrival of people from different cultures in Delhi has introduced new tastes to the capital’s palette. Although we cannot truly call this a new addition, but Delhi has certainly rekindled its love for Afghani food. Stalls in Lajpat Nagar’s Afghan Market, also known as Vinobha Puri Galli, which is home to about 200 Afghani families, is a goldmine when it comes to food. During one of our strolls at the market, we came across these five must-have Afghani food items.

1. Mantu (Afghan Dumplings)

These dumplings filled with a meat and onion mixture are steamed. These are perfect party food and taste best with spicy chutney.

2. Afghan Naan

Thin, long and oval shaped, Afghan naans are made of white wheat, topped with poppy and sesame seeds. They are perfect to eat with tea or any vegetable.

3. Afghan Samosa

Crispy Afghani Samosa is filled with meat or veggies and looks exactly like a patty. They make for a perfect evening snack.

4. Afghani Pulao

Afghani Pulao is quite special. It is cooked for hours and contains rice, mutton, vegetables and dry fruits.

5. Afghan Burger

Afghan Burger is a huge wrap filled with different vegetables like cabbage, tomato and cucumber.  It also contains shredded chicken, kebab, boiled eggs, French fries, red chutney, and salt. They serve special Afghani chutney with it which is made using tomatoes, garlic, vinegar, red chilli and capsicum.
