After facing the horrors of having her face plastered over a viral intimate video, an Odisha college student was delivered yet another shocking news of her college authorities deciding to expel her on Friday.
The incident was reported from Odisha’s Nayagarh district and has irked the state commission for women (SCW). Defending the girl, the SCW has demanded an explanation from the college principal for the strict action taken against the student.
Speaking to The Times of India, SCW chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra stated, “We have taken suo moto cognisance of the matter. The girl is a victim. Rubbing salt on her injury, the college threw her out. I have sought an explanation from the principal on the ground of rusticating her from the institution.” Reportedly, school and mass education department’s secretary PK Mohapatra had responded saying that they were “trying to verify” the case.
However, the college principal Sukanta Kumar Nayak was adamant that the girl was at fault. As per Nayak, the girl had “defamed the name of our institution” as she “consensually indulged in immoral act with the boy.”
On Wednesday, the girl, who is a plus-two student, filed a complaint against her boyfriend with Khandapada police. According to the 17-year-old, her boyfriend, who is a year senior to her in the same college, had blackmailed her with the intimate video which was filmed on February 17.
Reportedly, the girl learnt about the video after it had started being circulated on WhatsApp. Speaking to the police, she said, “He cheated me. I had requested him to delete the video. But he circulated the video among his friends,” the TOI report added.
Following the girl’s complaint, the accused was booked under IPC Section 376 (rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act as the victim is a minor. Speaking to TOI, Nayagarh superintendent of police Ashish Kumar Singh stated that the accused is absconding. “We will arrest him soon,” he said.
