The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on January 9 postponed Class 10 and class 12 board exams to March 9 due to the assembly election in 5 states. The board has said that the decision has been taken after due consideration adding that the students will now get more time to prepare for exams.
The board exams usually begins from the first week of March. The boards had earlier said that they will not delay the exams due to assembly polls. According to reports, no exams will be scheduled on March 4, 8 and 11.
“Gave careful consideration to situation before postponing exams by week which will now allow students to get more time for preparation,” the boards said in a statement.

It was only recently announced that the Class X CBSE board exams are set to become compulsory from 2018 after the board’s governing body “unanimously approved” a proposal on the same. However, the decision is yet to be approved by the government before it is implemented.
Over 18,000 schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The decision to make Class X Board exams optional was taken five years ago by former HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. The decision had been taken to reduce the stress that students face in studies.
As per reports, there is a view that 80 per cent weightage will be given to the marks scored in examinations while 20 per cent weightage will be given to school-based evaluation for the Class X Board exams.
The other key decision that has been recommended by the CBSE in its meeting is that the three language formula, under which Hindi, English and modern Indian language are taught, should be extended to class IX and X as well from the current VI to VIII.
