Lucknow hit and run: 4 killed after car crashes into night shelter

The accident took place at 1:30 a.m when around 80 labours were sleeping in the night shelter located opposite to the Bahukhandi MLA hostel.

In a hit-and-run accident happened in Lucknow’s Dalibagh area, a speeding car rammed into a night shelter in Lucknow and killed four people and injured six people on Saturday night. The accident took place at 1:30 a.m when around eighty labours were sleeping in the night shelter.

As stated by the police, there were five people in the car and the driver was drunk. The accused ran away from the spot after they crashed into the shelter. However, the Lucknow Police were able to catch two of them and also seized the car. One of the accused have been recognised as a son of former legislator Ashok Rawat and the other is a son of a businessman.

“The accused were drunk. However, two of them have been arrested and the car have been seized,” said SSP Lucknow, Mazil Saini.

The four people killed were daily wage workers from Bahraich’s district of Uttar Pradesh and have been identified as Abdul, Gokharan, Prithvi Raj and Nanku. The injured were taken to the nearby hospital for medical assistance. As the doctors said, four among the injured were in”critical” condition and have been referred to trauma centre.

The car details:

It was a  Hyundai i20 in red colour and the registration number was UP 32 GH 7788. The car was badly damaged after the incident.
