Tamil superstar Rajinikanth ended suspense and announced that he'll enter politics.

Rajinikanth fans are exhilarated today as the Tamil superstar announced that he will enter politics and form his own party. Amid all the suspense over his much-speculated foray into politics, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on December 31 finally made the much-anticipated announcement.

The 67-year-old superstar, at a gathering in Chennai, said that he will form his own political party and will contest all 234 seats of Tamil Nadu in the next Assembly elections.

“Everything needs to change, the time is here. We will change the system. I want to bring good governance,” he said while addressing his fans and supporters at Chennai’s Raghavendra Mandapam.

“Over the past one year, the events in Tamil Nadu have put the state to shame. People are laughing. If I don’t make this decision now… the guilt will haunt me,” he added saying that he is just doing his duty. He even claimed that he would quit politics in three years if he is unable to bring about a change.

Rajinikanth who is a cult figure in Tamil Nadu and enjoys a massive fan following told his supporters to be ‘watchdogs’ instead of just being party cadres. He also mentioned that he will talk about the policies and promises of his political endeavour at an appropriate time before the Assembly elections.

Hundreds of his supporters who had gathered at the venue welcomed his decision with loud cheers and later burst into celebrations. The actor joined his fans for pictures and autographs.

At a time when Tamil Nadu politics is facing a leadership vacuum post former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s death last year, Rajni’s entry is expected to bring in the much-awaited change. Legendary actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, who is also keen on joining politics, welcomed Rajini’s decision.

And as it was expected, Twitteratti went crazy with everyone, including fans as well as people from the film fraternity lauding the superstar’s resolution to try his hand at politics.
