As Devasuram clocks 24 years, here are few interesting facts about Mohanlal's blockbuster

One of the earliest blockbusters of Mohanlal's career Devasuram, is still etched in the memory of cine lovers

Devasuram, one of the all-time blockbusters of Malayalam actor Mohanlal completed 24 years on Friday. Helmed by veteran director I.V. Sashi and produced by V. B. K. Menon, the action-drama released on 14 April 1993. Devasuram was written by Ranjith and starred Revathy in the female lead.

Devasuram is considered as one of the best films of Mohanlal’s career. The one-liners and punch dialogues delivered by Mohanlal is still a hit among the youth of Kerala. The film told the rivalry story between Mangalassery Neelakantan and Mundakkal Shekaran. The Malayalam superstar portrayed the titular role of Mangalassery Neelakantan in the film. The iconic movie which also marked the Malayalam debut of Tamil actor Napolean as the antagonist, Mundakkal Shekaran. Devasuram was also said to be inspired by the life of Mullasserry Rajagopal who died in 2002.

Upon its release, Devasuram was a runaway hit at the Box Office. The film ran for 200 days across the cinemas and became the top Malayalam grosser of 1993. The sequel of Devasuram, titled Ravanu Prabhu released in 2001 and went on to become a Box Office success as well. The sequel, which marked the directorial debut of Ranjith starred the five-time-national award winner in a dual role as the father-son duo, Mangalassery Neelakandan and Mangalassery Neelakandan Karthikeyan.

As expected, Mohanlal fans made the film a top trend across the social media on the 24th-anniversary occasion of Devasuram.

Devasuram also starred an ensemble star cast including Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, Sreeraman, Manianpilla Raju, Ramu and Seetha.
