Professional boxer Tyson Fury is the world heavyweight champion in addition to being controversy’s favourite child. He belongs to an Irish traveller heritage family, which earned him the nickname of the‘Gypsy King’. He is also called ‘2 Fast’ and ‘The Furious One’.

The 28-year-old Brit was born with boxing in his blood. Fury initially started out as a bare-knuckle fighter, an unlicensed boxer, and then finally as a professional boxer. He made his pro-boxing debut in December 2008 against Hungarian fighter Bela Gyongyosi.

Fury clinched the English heavyweight title in 2009 against fellow British fighter, John McDermott. In 2011, he lifted the Commonwealth heavyweight title after beating British boxer Dereck Chisora. Fury then bagged the Irish heavyweight title in 2012 against Irish fighter Martin Rogan. In 2015, Tyson Fury became the World heavyweight champion by defeating Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

Fury has made several controversial statements over the years. In 2013, he called boxers David Price and Tony Bellew “Gay Lovers”, he was subsequently fined £3000 for such blatant opinions. The same year, Tyson again was headlined in the media for saying that he would ‘hang’ his own sister if she was ‘promiscuous’.

Fury has publicly admitted to have taken cocaine. He had said: “Why shouldn’t I take cocaine? It’s my life, isn’t it? I can do what I want.” The controversial boxer also once infuriated millions by likening  homosexuality to pedophilia. Fury even blamed the Jews for killing Jesus Christ.

“No tattoos, no criminal records, white Christian, born in the UK, hard working, tax paying, a British citizen, family man, sporting hero,” Tyson fury described himself.
