India clinch the U-18 Asia Cup in a nail-biting finish against Bangladesh

India becomes the champion of the 4th Men's U-18 Asia Cup

India’s Under-18 hockey team have defeated Bangladesh to clinch the Asia Cup. A nail-biting finish that had all the ingredients of a worthy final, saw the hosts Bangladesh faltering in the dying seconds of the game.

The game was tied at half-time with both teams scoring a goal each. India’s Gurjant Singh scored a field goal within the first five minutes of the game. The second half saw two quick goals from India which was later equalised by the Bangladeshis. The scores were then tied at 4-4. India scored in the last 20 seconds to break the deadlock from 4-4 to 5-4. The finals of the 4th Men’s U-18 Asia Cup was played in Dhaka.

India’s vice-captain Hardik Singh was given the Man of the Match award for his exemplary performance. Tweets poured in to wish the team. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel, not only got his wishes on time but for a change, were also spot on. President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Amit Shah, also congratulated the team.

Tweet of the day came from Home Minister, Rajnath Singh. Not the one after the finals. I am talking about the tweet that he posted after India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan. A day before the finals, India had thrashed Pakistan 3-1 in the semis. Singh congratulated India for its “surgical precision.”
