Meanwhile In Pakistan, Pregnant Singer Shot Dead After Refusing To Stand During Performance

In Pakistan’s Sindh province, a pregnant singer was shot dead during a festive ceremony. Samina Samoon, who is also known as Samina Sindhu, was performing at an event in Kanga village near Larkana on Tuesday when the incident happened.

Reportedly, the accused, who has been identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi, was inebriated and had requested her to stand while she performed. The 24-year-old singer refused to comply with the request as she was pregnant.

A video clip of the incident aired on a local news channel Larkano News shows Samina performing while people continue to shower her with money. During her performance, Jatoi approached her and asked her to stand, which she refused. However, as seen in the video, Samina, who was six months pregnant, did oblige and stood up, only moments before she was shot dead.

The video was shared on Twitter by Islamabad-based human rights activist Kapil Dev.

According to Dawn, the singer was rushed to Chandka Hospital where she was declared dead. Her husband has now demanded that a First Information Report (FIR) be registered for a case of double murder — of Samina and her unborn child.

Jatoi has now been arrested and an investigation is underway.
