After entering the fitness market with his Being Human bike, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is all set to enter the smartphone market with his Being Human smartphone. The word is that Bhai has already registered a trademark and is aiming to target entry to mid-level market segment, which means that his smartphone could be priced anywhere between Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000.
“We have just started our entry into the category, we need to be careful. If people buy our products and like it, we will see. We are starting the smartphones in small numbers and we hope to have minimum losses and maximum gain,” Khan wrote in an e-mail interview to IANS.
Reports further suggest that the phone would run on the Android operating system and would directly compete against Chinese smartphone makers like Gionee, Oppo and Xiaomi and Indian smartphone maker Micromax. What would work in Bhaijaan’s favour and prove to be a driving factor in the sales of his Being Human smartphone is his loyal fan following who worship him like God.
“For the smartphone to be successful, it will have to be different from the current offerings in the market. The differentiating can be on any of the software or hardware going into the phone. A price point of below Rs 10,000 will make the phone accessible to a number of users looking for an upgrade from a cheaper device,” research analyst Shobhit Srivastava told IANS.
But this is not the first time that a celebrity has step into the smartphone market in India. Last month, Indian smartphone maker Smartron launched a Sachin special edition smartphone in India. Smartron srt.phone smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8976 processor and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. It sports a 5.5-inch full HD display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It sports 4GB RAM and is available in two RAM variants– 32GB and 64GB and comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera.
