New iPhone 8 leaks suggest contradictory reports and we are officially confused

Touch ID or no- we are so confused!

After the Korean electronics giant, Samsung unveiled its flagship device Samsung Galaxy S8 last month, it’s time that we shift our sole focus to Apple’s upcoming gadget– iPhone 8 (or is it iPhone X or iPhone Edition?), which will be unveiled in September this year (hopefully). Though the rumours about the new iPhone that started circulating soon after the company launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year have been consistent so far, but the latest leaks have left us bewildered.

According to MacRumours, the all new iPhone 8 won’t have a physical home screen button. Instead, the home screen button which also houses the Touch ID would be embedded in the display. Instead, the home screen button which also houses the Touch ID would be embedded in the display. Another report by iDropnews suggests that iPhone 8 would sport just 4mm bezels around the edges and the front-facing camera would be practically hidden underneath the display. The phone would feature a 5.8-inch OLED display with wireless charging technology.

However, another report by 9To5Mac suggests otherwise. The report suggests that the Touch ID would be embedded on the back panel just below the Apple logo. The report is based on an image posted on Weibo which shows the technical drawings of iPhone straight from Foxconn, one of the many manufacturing giants that manufactures smartphones for Apple. According to this design, iPhone 8 would feature significantly smaller bezels on the top and bottom of the smartphone with the front-facing camera placed near the right side of the screen.

Another report suggests that Apple could do away with the Touch ID, relying solely on its iris recognition technology.

Reports about Apple delaying the launch of iPhone 8 have been circulating for long. Could it be that Apple is still confused on which design to settle with? Touch ID at the back of the home screen could prove to be an uncomfortable location for the users, however removing it all together could cause functional issues with many of Apple’s apps. For all we know, these could just be rumours. Sadly, we won’t know anything for sure until the end. Till then sit tight!
