Airplane bigger than a football field and we are serious -- See photos

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has unveiled an airplane called Stratolaunch, which is bigger in size than a football field. The plane measures 385 feet while a football measures only 360 feet. Check out the details here

When it comes to the modern world, technology has no end. From robots powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to flying cars, technology is evolving at a steady rate while transforming the world around us. The year 2017, in particular, has witnessed many such marvels coming to life. Talking about aviation, last year we saw a Canada-based startup unveiling an aeroplane that can transport people from London to New York is just 20 minutes. If that wasn’t interesting enough for you, there’s more. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has revealed an airplane that is bigger than a football field (yes, that’s true).

Allen has unveiled Stratolaunch, which is the world’s largest plane by wingspan, measuring a whopping 385 feet (117 metres approx). To put into perspective, a football measures only 360 feet (109 metres) in length. The aircraft measures 238 feet (72.5 metres) from nose to tail and stands at a height of 50 feet (15 metres) from the ground. According to Stratolaunch Systems, the company that has manufactured this gigantic airplane, the plane weighs 500,000 lbs (2,26,796 Kg approx) on wheels and has been designed for a maximum takeoff weight of 1,300,000 lbs (5,89,670 Kg approx).

“Today, we’re moving the Stratolaunch aircraft out of the hangar – for the first time ever – to conduct aircraft fueling tests. This marks the completion of the initial aircraft construction phase and the beginning of the aircraft ground and flight testing phase,” company’s chief executive Jean Floyd said in a blog post.
