Many times it so happens that you accidentally end up deleting all the photographs saved on the memory card of your smartphones. It sucks, especially if you haven’t stored a backup copy of the images elsewhere (typically in an external hard drive or the laptop). But don’t worry as there is a simple way you can use to recover all those deleted photos i.e. if you haven’t the lost the SDcard (just kidding!).
How does the memory card work?
But before we show you how you can recover your photos, let’s try to understand what happens when you delete photos from your memory card. First of all, it’s important to know that the system doesn’t erase all the photos, it simply makes the space available so that you can save other files in it. The ‘deleted’ files (in this case photos) are still there which is how you can recover them.
Going further, as you keep on saving new files (documents, photos etc), the system might use the space of the deleted files to store new data. The good news is that you can still recover it.
What all do I need to recover my photos?
All you need is your memory card, a recovery software and your laptop. There are many recovery software available in the market. You can use PhotoRec for both MacBook and your Windows PC or Recuva, which works only for Windows.
How do I recover my photos?
Once your recovery software is in place, just follow these simple steps to recover your photos:
Step 1: Connect your memory card to your system.
Step 2: Open your recovery software.
Step 3: Now, select your media card from the list of drives displayed in the software.
Step 4: After you have selected the right disk, press Enter.
Step 5: Once the software has scanned your memory card, it will show you the list of files (photos and documents) in your SD card. Just select the files you want to recover.
Step 6: Select the place you want to save your photos (in a new folder or pictures folder) and press Confirm.
Tada! All your files have been safely recovered and are safe to use now.
