Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, in a long introspective post let the world know about the many goals he has set for himself for this year. It’s heartening to see that an individual with a net worth of 72.3 billion USD takes New Year’s resolution like the rest of us. While reflecting on past year’s achievements like developing an AI for his home, visiting every state in the US and learning Mandarin, for this year has cut out some serious task for himself .
In his own words he plans to “fix Facebook”, which can be read as an acknowledgement of the fact that not everything is fine with the platform. To put it simply, he wants to do his job as the company’s CEO.
Here’s what Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post announcing his plans for 2018:
Today feels a lot like that first year. The world feels anxious and divided, and Facebook has a lot of work to do — whether it’s protecting our community from abuse and hate, defending against interference by nation states, or making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent. My personal challenge for 2018 is to focus on fixing these important issues.

Facebook had a tough 2017. From battling fake news to unwittingly allowing a Russian agency to meddle with US elections to online privacy breach in the European Union, the company was the centre of a lot of controversies last year. And it seems that Zuckerberg is picking up the pieces this year and focusing on getting the company back on the right track.
He’s planning to achieve this by bringing in experts from media, government, history politics and technology together to help work on these topics.

“We won’t prevent all mistakes or abuse, but we currently make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools. If we’re successful this year then we’ll end 2018 on a much better trajectory,” Zuckerberg noted.
