Australia beat England by 120 runs, lead Ashes 2017-18 Test series by 2-0

Mitchell Starc starred in the second innings of the second Test as he managed a five-wicket haul helping Australia mop up the tail quickly

Australia registers another win in the second Test of the Ashes 2017-18, taking a lead of 2-0 in the series. England’s batting once again faltered as they fell short of the target by 120 runs. Joe Root’s gritty knock in the second innings went in vain as England could not chase down the target of 344 at the Adelaide Oval. England lost 6 wickets in a matter of just 57 runs on Day 5 of the Test.

Mitchell Starc got through the tail quickly, ensuring there were no comebacks on the final day of the Test. It was Josh Hazlewood who got the wicket of Root. Though Shaun Marsh’s century in the first innings became the difference between the two teams, his unbeaten innings of 126 ensured that Australia have a lead of above 200 runs after England’s first innings. Marsh was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy for his special knock.

Nathan Lyon too starred in the second Test both with his bowling and fielding skills. Lyon picked up 6 wickets in the Test. However, it was his catch in the first innings which created the buzz.

The next Test will be played at WACA ground, Perth starting December 14. It will be a do or die Test for England if they are to make a comeback in the five-match Test series.
