Akshay Kumar's sister revealing how he empowered her is what every bhai-behen bond should be like

Akshay Kumar's sister, Alka Bhatia talks about how his brother encouraged her and helped her in being self-empowered is truly inspiring

Akshay Kumar, who was recently felicitated with the Man of the Decade award at Vogue Beauty Awards 2017, is known to have always encouraged women empowerment. Be it on a personal or professional level, he has always respected them. Now that the time to celebrate Raksha Bandhan has arrived, he took to micro blogging site Twitter and shared a sweet video of his sister Alka Bhatia. In the video, Alka can be seen recalling the days when she couldn’t attend late night parties because of him.

Sharing her memories, Alka talked about the instances of her past of how her parents didn’t let her step out of the house without Akshay. Like all other Indian parents, Alka said, her parents too didn’t want her to step out of the house without the company of her brother Raju. But Akshay (aka Rajiv) in turn was of the opinion that she herself should take care of her safety. Thus, she had to miss out going to a lot of parties as a teenager as Akshay would refuse to accompany her and she hated her brother for that. The main motive, she revealed, behind Akshay’s decision was to make her strong and empower her.

This is not the first time that Akshay has shared the video of her sister. Two years ago, on Raksha Bandhan, the brother-sister duo shot a video enacting the Sitaharan episode from Ramayan.

On the work front, Akshay is gearing up for his next release Toilet: Ek Prem Katha that also features Bhumi Pednekar. The Sree Narayan Singh’s directorial is set to hit the theatres on August 11. Not restricted to just one release, the actor, who is riding high on success after delivering four back to back Rs 100 crore films i.e. Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom and Jolly LLB 2, has quite a few films in his kitty.

Akshay, in an interview with us during the promotions of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, joked that he wasn’t going to slow down anytime soon. While the shooting for Padman and 2.0 is complete, Kumar has already completed the half shooting schedule of Gold and the film is expected to be wrapped up by the end of September.
