5 Common Food Items That People Are Allergic To

Scoffed at somebody for saying that eating mangoes makes them choke? How cruel ‘cuz that’s a legit allergy. Food allergies are very common these days and can cause serious illness. When your body’s immune system doesn’t cope up with any food item consumed, it can lead to allergy. Though any food can cause allergy, we’ve listed some of the most common food items that people are allergic to.

1. Peanuts

If after eating peanuts, you get a runny nose, skin infection,  tightening of the throat, itching around the mouth or any digestive issue, you are allergic to it. It is very common in children which stays on to adulthood. It’s advisable to consult a doctor as soon as you see any of the symptoms. Peanuts can cause a life-threatening allergic reaction.

2. Milk 

Known as lactose intolerance, milk allergy is one of the most common allergies in infants and young children. If you see any of these reactions — skin irritations, abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea, go straight to the doctor.

3. Fish

Fish allergy can often cause severe reactions. The allergic reaction to fish is found mostly in adults. Common symptoms are skin rash, nausea, asthma, headache and runny nose. Also, some people might be allergic to cooked but not raw fish.

4. Egg

One of the most common forms of allergy is caused due to consumption of eggs. From sneezing and nasal congestion, skin inflammation, nausea, diarrhea to vomiting, there are several symptoms. The allergy is due to the protein present in eggs.

5. Wheat

Mostly affects adults, the main allergens in wheat is a protein called gliadin. People allergic to wheat are generally asked to eat a gluten-free diet. Common symptoms are bloating, skin irritations, mouth ulcers, diarrhea, and inflammation in the abdomen and bowel.
