Soon, you can use your metro card in DTC buses

Delhi govt will initiate a pilot project under which 200 buses — 100 DTC and 100 cluster ones- will be given the facility to accept the metro smart cards

Commuters of Delhi Metro will soon be able to use their metro smart cards to hop a ride in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. The Delhi government will initiate a pilot project from mid-August under which 200 buses — 100 DTC and 100 cluster ones- will be provided with the facility to accept the metro smart cards.

If the project becomes successful, the government will extend this facility in all buses operated by DTC and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) that runs cluster buses.

The initiative is on the lines of ‘common mobility card’, a facility available in the public transport system in cities such as London, Hong Kong and Seoul, was conceptualised in 2010, reported Times of India.

However, the project has also witnessed several delays, it was due to be launched an year ago but got postponed yet again.

Last year, DTC also carried out trials to check how the cards work in its buses. It has also installed electronic ticketing machines (ETM) in its buses to read the mobility card and provide an e-receipt.

The software used by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been successfully integrated with the system at DTC and cluster buses.

“All the modalities for the successful working of the common mobility card have been worked out. We plan to start the pilot project by mid-August,” an official told Times of India.

One of the concern that had delayed the integration process was that commuters might to-up their card at DTC and then det a refund for DMRC, a move that may result in revenue loss of Delhi Metro. HOwever, the authorities have solved the issue of sharing revenue.
