Rahul Gandhi asks Mani Shankar Aiyar to apologise after "neech aadmi" remark against Modi

Earlier in the day, while speaking to the media, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar attacked Modi and called him a "neech aadmi".

Following senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “neech aadmi” remark for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi asked the former to issue an apology for his statement.

Earlier in the day, while speaking to ANI, Aiyar attacked Modi saying, “Mujhko lagta hai ki ye aadmi bahut neech kisam ka aadmi hai, isme koi sabhyata nahi hai, or aise mauke par is kisam ki gandi rajniti karne ki kya avashyakta hai?” (I think he is a vile man, he isn’t cultured at all. Why is there a need to play such dirty politics at times like these?) Aiyar had made the statement in response to Modi’s allegation that Congress sought votes BR Ambedkar’s name.

The Congress VP defended his party in a tweet, saying Aiyar’s remarks do not align with the party’s culture. Gandhi added that the party expects an apology from Aiyar following his attack on PM Modi.

Aiyar’s remarks had invited a lot of backlashes and the Prime Minister too criticised the statement. While addressing a public rally in poll-bound Gujarat, Modi said, “I have nothing to say on a ‘wise’ Congress leader calling me ’Neech’. This is the Congress mindset. They have their language and we have our work. People will answer them through the ballot box.”
