The opposition has asked the EC and the President to reverse the decision. They also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that the Union Budget was defying the model code of conduct framed by the EC.
The Election Commission announced the dates for the assembly election in 5 states - UP, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
UP has 403 assembly seats, Goa has 40, Manipur has 60, Punjab has 117 and Uttarakhand has 70 seats.
