A cinema hall, food court, an international school with a hostel, a 7- star hotel and resort, all of this can be found inside the headquarters of Dera Sacha Sauda in Haryana. The headquarters of the Dera located on the outskirts of Sirsa is nothing less than a dreamland.
And the one thing that is common in each of the building is hoardings carrying pictures of its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The self-styled guru who took over as its chief in 1990, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and glittering costumes is now in jail for 20 years for the rape of two disciples.
Dera Sacha Sauda which was set up in the year 1948, and claims to be a spiritual as well as social welfare organisation which has around 50 million followers in India and abroad. On Tuesday, the Haryana government gave a nod to conduct a search inside the headquarters.
As per the eyewitnesses, the search operation is just an eyewash as the orders were given nearly a week after Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to jail on August 28. Those in Dera had time between August 28 and August 31 to dump cash and illegal weapons.
After the verdict, the mood at the headquarters seemed to be gloomy and most of the beds at the hospitals were empty. The headquarters is sprawled in 800 acres is dominated by the pink building which is also known as “gufa” which was Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s residence. One of the rape survivors had mentioned about the “gufa” in a detailed letter which she wrote to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The school, where as per locals hundreds of children were studying, is now empty. The police officials have asked the parents of the students to withdraw their children from the school.
