From relocating beggars to revamping roads, how Hyderabad is bending over backwards to welcome Ivanka Trump

The three-day event that will begin on November 28 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

With the US President Donald Trump heaping praises for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for achieving astounding growth in India, the ties between India and the United States seem to be deepening by the day. And now a US-backed conference is likely to cement the ties between the two democratic nations further.

The three-day Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 is scheduled to take place between November 28 – November 30 in Hyderabad and is likely to witness nearly 1,200 dignitaries including the First Daughter Ivanka Trump in attendance.

The preparations for the event have already begun and the state government is leaving no stone unturned to welcome the US adviser. Here are the steps being taken by the state officials to spruce up Hyderabad to welcome Ivanka Trump:

Relocating beggars:
According to a report by The Indian Express, the city Police has launched a massive drive to remove beggars from the street. Nearly 400 beggers have already been relocated to a rehabilitation centre at Chanchalguda Jail. The Police now plans to remove nearly 6,000 beggers from the streets and relocate them to rehab centres and shelters for homeless people.

Better roads:
The city roads are being spruced up ahead of Ivanka Trump’s visit on November 28. According to a report by the Times of India, roads leading to places like Charminar, Golconda Fort, Falaknuma Palace and HITEX are being overhauled. Apart from the roads, the city officials are also fixing the pavements and planting trees along the roadside to give the city a facelift.

Better pedestrian pathways:
Ivanka Trump is likely to visit historic monuments including Charminar, Laadbazar and Chowmahalla Palace during her three-day visit to the city. Ahead of her visit, the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, which aims to develop a pedestrian along the 220m radius of the monument has picked up the pace. Apart from this, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is also carrying out repairs to the monument.
