Salman Khan books Eid 2019 slot for Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat

This is going to be the fifth collaboration between Salman Khan and his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri

Salman Khan and Eid have a special connection. Continuing the tradition of releasing his films on the festive occasion of Eid, Bollywood’s bhaijaan has booked the auspicious date for his 2019 release titled Bharat.

The movie will be directed by Tiger Zinda Hai fame director Ali Abbas Zafar. The movie is an official adaptation of a South Korean movie named Ode to My Father which captures the Korean war and the famous Hungnam Evacuation which was the largest evacuation of UN forces and North Korean civilians on a single ship.

The adaptation will also showcase the government’s decision to dispatch nurses and miners to West Germany in the 1960s and the Vietnam War.

According to a statement, the film was identified as potential content for the Indian audience following its screening at the Berlin Film Festival.

Atul Agnihotri, who will be producing Bharat, said,

It’s the journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the name of Bharat. That film is just the starting point for us, but since it was an inspiration, we wanted in all fairness to officially own it and acquired the remake rights before going ahead with Bharat.

He further added,

I feel I contribute better as a producer. Ali is a friend, I love his work and eventually, it’s all about connecting with the source. If you speak to him, you will realise that Ali is far more passionate about the material.

He also said it was a huge responsibility to make a film with Salman as “there are big expectations that come with the job.” Talking about Salman Khan’s humongous fan base and the content they like, Atul said:

I’m very conscious about Salman’s fan base and what they want. And once again, I’m convinced that being a family film it’s worthy of coming during the festive time. And anyway, an Eid release is always every producer’s preferred choice.

Bharat will go on floors in April next year and will be shot in Punjab, Delhi, Abu Dhabi and Spain.
