US sanctions Hafiz Saeed's JuD and other Pakistan-based terror groups to curb their financial support

The United States continues targeting extremists groups, including Hafiz Saeed's JuD, in Pakistan and in the nearby areas, including the charities and other terror fronts used to spread illicit terror activities

In a major development, the United States have imposed a sanction on the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) on May 12 in order to affect their leadership and fund-raising links. The action has been taken just a day after warning Indian and Afghanistan of attacks planned against them by such terror groups.

According to several media reports, during a Congressional hearing on Worldwide threats, the director of National Intelligence, Daniel Coats, said,”Pakistan has failed to eradicate terrorist and militants in their country. These groups could turn out to be a threat to the US and parallelly, they continue to plan attacks in Indian and Afganistan.”

Director of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) John Smith said,”This sanction is responsible for barring the financial support to the Pakistan-based terrorist group and those who have been supporting Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS, and LeT for recruitment and other violent operations across the globe.”

“The United States continues targeting extremists group in Pakistan and in the nearby areas, including the charities and other terror fronts used to spread illicit terror activities,” added Smith.

As reported by India Today, these sanctions have been imposed basically against Ali Muhammad Abu Turab, Inayat-ur Rahman, Hayatullah Ghulam Muhammad (Haji Hayatullah) and a charity called known as the Welfare and Development Organisation of Jamaat-ud-Dawa for Quran and Sunnah which is being managed by Inayat-ur Rahman.

Rahman has been slapped with this sanction as he has been working for the JDQ and the Taliban and used to provide materials and financial support to Taliban and LeT. He has also been a long time JDQ leader who worked directly for Haji Hayatullah.
