Does Infosys discriminate against non-South Asian employees? This lawsuit says so

Infosys has been sued for by a former employee for allegedly discriminating against employees on the basis of race and national origin

Infosys is facing trouble after a former head of immigration in the United States has filed a lawsuit against the IT major, accusing it of “discrimination” against non-South Asian employees. Filed by Erin Green, the lawsuit, names two senior company officials, Head of Global Immigration Vasudeva Nayak and Executive Vice President and Global Head of Talent and Technology, Binod Hampapur.

The lawsuit was filed before a US district Court in Texas on June 19 and demands a trial by jury. Pressing serious charges against them, Green has stated in the lawsuit that he was “terminated because of Defendant’s obsessional preference for employees of South Asian race and national origin, usually Indian, and as retaliation for reporting Nayak and Hampapur’s discriminatory treatment of himself and others on the basis of race and national origin.”

Green’s counsel Kilgore & Kilgore, PLLC said, that Green’s termination was in violation of “Defendant’s policy which requires progressive warnings or placement on a performance improvement plan prior to termination.”

The 53-page lawsuit points out Green was employed in in Plano, Texas between October 2011 to June 28, 2016 and that the experience that he has had with the company demonstrates the “discriminatory nature of Infosys’s employment practices.”

Refusing to respond to the case, the company said, “Infosys does not comment on ongoing litigation.”

The timing of the lawsuit might mean more trouble for the company as it is just recently that Infosys has announced that it will hire 10,000 Americans in the next two years. The company has also stated that it will open four centres in the US, a move which is being viewed as an attempt to woo the Trump administration.
