First 'squeezable' smartphone, HTC U to be unveiled on May 16

You can squeeze HTC upcoming smartphone!

Save your date folks as HTC is going to unveil a ‘squeezable’ smartphone at a special event in Taiwan on May 16, 2017. The Taiwanese electronics company has already sent out the invites that carry the tagline “Squeeze for the brilliant U”.

But before you get too excited, there is something you should know. You can’t squeeze the phone literally (there goes your dream of playing with a hi-tech squishy toy). The technology is said to be called “Edge Sense” that would involve having special sensors in the frame of the smartphone and allowing users to interact the phone by squeezing the edges of the smartphone.

According to rumours, HTC has long been working on a smartphone codenamed as “Ocean”. The smartphone is likely to sport a 5.5-inch quad HD display with a 12 MP rear camera and a 16 MP front camera. The rumours suggest that it would be powered by Qualcomm’s all mighty Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) and run on Android 7.1 Nougat. Furthermore, it would 4GB RAM and up to 128 GB internal memory.

The recent times have witnessed HTC struggling to maintain its head above the water, thanks to the companies like Apple and Samsung that enjoy a majority share in the global market. The mid-range market, on the other hand, is ruled by Chinese smartphone makes like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
