Watch: Traffic halts on Gujarat highway as 11 'big cats' cross road

In Gujarat, commuters were thrilled to witness eleven lions trying to cross the road on the Pipavav-Rajula highway in Amreli district.

The king of the jungle may look majestic in the jungle but spotting not one but eleven! In an area inhabited by human beings can be shocking for everyone.

In Gujarat, commuters were shocked and thrilled as well to witness eleven lions trying to cross the road on the Pipavav-Rajula highway in Amreli district.

According to reports, the video was shot by a driver on Saturday. The video shows the lions waiting to get to the other side of the highway but unable to do so due to moving traffic. As the group waits for the traffic to stop, a biker stops dangerously close to film the sight.

After about 15 minutes, the traffic on the other side stopped to give way to the pride that managed to cross the road with the exception of one lion that went back.

According to a TOI report, the Asiatic lion census in 2015 reported that there were 523 lions in Gujarat of which over 168 lions moved out into unprotected parts of the Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, Rajkot and Junagadh districts. Their actual numbers though are said to be higher.

Many on Twitter, though, raised the point that the lions reached the highway as humans have encroached upon their habitat. According to ANI, many lions have died in road and train accidents in the area.
