USA has since long been in news for their treatment of Muslims, for all the wrong reasons that is. They added another feather in their cap when a New Mexico convenience store put up a signboard which reads ‘Obama and other Muslims are not allowed here’.
The Mayhill convenience store which sparked outrage with this signage also has to its credit poorly cleaned bathrooms and a cockroach problem. The other aspects could easily have been overlooked had they cared to be humane and nice to customers. On the contrary, the store owner has a track record of having thrown out customers who have raised objections to his outrightly rude sign boards.
Just in case the other sign boards were not enough to make it explicitly clear to you how much he hates Obama and Muslims, he has a sign board that states ‘KILL OBAMA’, written exactly like that.
The issue has caught the Council of American Islamic Relations’ eye and they said that while even making offensive speech comes under the ambit of one’s freedom of speech the store owner has been urged to take the signs down.
While there is nothing wrong with being anti or pro any political figure, promoting hatred and bias against any community via such signage shows how even the most developed of countries have fairly underdeveloped societies.Discrimination of this sort, irrespective of which community is at the receiving end takes the developing world several steps back.
