Russell Horning aka Backpack Kid from Katy Perry's SNL performance is both weird and amazing

The "Backpack Kid" from Katy Perry's SNL performance has a name! It's Russell Horning.

While Katy Perry gave it her all for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, she just could not manage to emerge as the highlight of the show. Perhaps she’d regret bringing that lanky kid around who stole the show. Dubbed “Backpack Kid”, the boy went viral owing to his largely unique style of dancing which was totally lit AF.

The kid’s real name is Russell Horning and he’s a 15-year-old who is also an internet star! During Perry’s performance of “Swish Swish”, Russell swiftly swung his arms back and forth. Russell goes by the username i_got_barzz on Instagram and has 546k followers. He was discovered by Katy Perry herself who then brought him on board. Russell claims that he “can’t dance” but we all know that that is a lie.

Perry herself tried to replicate the totally rad dance moves proving that it is no cakewalk. This kid has some real talent! Russell shared a video of the pop singer trying to redo his dance moves and boy did she fail terribly at it. Here is the epic fail Katy Perry video:

Back to Russell Horning, how did this kid get popular? The simple, most obvious answer to the question is his wacky dance skills that do not just include flailing one’s arms.
