In the last few years, thanks to Instagram, makeup has come into its own – a tool for everyone to enjoy and profit off of. And in the last few years it has also taught us just how empowering the process can be for some. Makeup naysayers will tell you we do not need artifice to ‘look beautiful for anyone’. We say do what you want to. Love makeup? Go ahead and contour away. Hate it? That’s okay too. To each his own after all.
London-based Emily Jones, a 22-year-old aspiring makeup artist is currently ruling social media with her stunning makeup looks. And while her stunning cat-eye may or may not change your life, her attitude with taking on life by the horns will definitely inspire you.
As per Buzzfeed, Jones has ‘Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a connective tissue condition’. She says, “I have the feeding tube for my nutrition since my stomach doesn’t retain any food or fluids. I have a trapped vagus nerve, which causes my stomach to reject everything. My intestines also don’t work properly, and I suffer multiple joint dislocations every day.”
Drawing inspiration from YouTube tutorials and bloggers, she finally decided to give it a try herself. Emily started experimenting with makeup three years ago and was amazed how confident she felt afterwards. She does not feel that makeup is used to hide or not displaying her true identity but it is a powerful mechanism that helps her feel empowered and a medium to show her creativity and artistic abilities.
Emily enjoys a great fan following of 28.4k followers on Instagram and plans to do tutorials and launch her makeup line. According to Emily, the reason she started her Instagram account is to inspire people that despite having a feeding tube, she can slay and look amazing.
In future, Emily wants to collaborate with some famous makeup bloggers like Carli Bybel and Nikkie Tutorials.
