A Baboon Drove A Bus In Karnataka For A While And People Are Flipping Out Over It

The driver's suspension for allowing the animal to steer the vehicle has divided the Internet

A baboon took the wheels of a Karnataka state transport bus on October 1. No, we’re not kidding, neither are we calling the driver names. An actual langur (baboon) was seen in a video, now being widely shared, perched on a steering wheel.

The driver from KSRTC’s Davanagere division, Prakash, even lets the animal operate the steering wheel of the vehicle and change the gears. The driver has since been taken off duty for endangering the lives of the passengers on the bus, NDTV reported.

The video shows a gray langur, locally known as Hanuman langur, taking charge of the wheels as the driver laughs at the animal’s antics. The driver was seen patting the langur’s back several times as the animal sat on the steering wheel of the bus, plying from Davanagere to Bharamasagara.

“We have removed the driver from duty and have asked the divisional security inspector to conduct an inquiry. He won’t be assigned any further duty till probe is completed. He could even be suspended,” a KSRTC official told The Times of India.

The report also quoted another official who claimed that the langur came with a teacher, who regularly commutes in the bus. Apparently, that day it went and sat on the driver’s seat. The driver Prakash, being an animal lover let him sit on the wheel. None of the passengers have complained so far.

However, the Internet is divided over the driver’s suspension.
