Reliance Jio may launch Apple MacBook like laptops with 4G SIM slot: Report

After storming the telecom market with its disruptive price policy, Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio may soon launch Jio-branded laptop with 4G support. According to a report in technews website PhoneRadar.com, Taiwan-based electronic giant Foxconn will manufacture these laptops that is likely to be a MacBook Air clone with 4G SIM card slot. Therefore the new laptop will have a 13.3-inch FHD display with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Since the new device will be 4G compatible, it will also have an HD camera placed above the display for video calling.  The report also said that it will feature a magnesium alloy body without a cooling fan. The device will also sport a chiclet key style slim keyboard without the number pad. Additionally,  it will be powered by a current-generation Intel Pentium quad-core Intel Pentium processor packed with 4 GB RAM along with 128GB SSD storage and 64GB eMMC storage..  Coming to dimensions, the Jio laptop will measure 12.2mm in thickness, and weigh just 1.2 kilograms.

Besides, the new lapto will also offer other connectivity options which includes Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, micro HDMI port and microSD card slot. The report has not clearly stated whether operating system will be Window 10 or Chrome. It said that the final variant is being tested with Windows but they may opt for Chrome OS.  While it will be the first  4G laptop to be launched in India, such an initiative has already been taken in China by Xiaomi. Xiaomi launched the MIi Notebook Air  4G laptop with 4G connectivity in December last year, which included Cat.4 4G LTE support capable of delivering download speeds up to 150Mbps.

The report, however, did not mention the pricing of the new device but given the past record of Jio, it could not be expected to be overpriced.
