Game of Thrones S07E07: 9 shocking moments from 'The Dragon and the Wolf'

Game of Thrones season 7 finale might not have been every bit worth its wait, but it most certainly was one of the most exciting episodes.

Game of Thrones might not have felt as grand this year like it used to (all thanks to the never-ending leaks) but the season finale did manage to make up for the lost hype. Although the season 7 finale “The Dragon and the Wolf” was plagued with bad writing as were the other episodes this year, the plot advancements certainly made it feel like the “Great War” had finally arrived.

If one chooses to ignore the forced utilization of Euron Greyjoy or the lackluster redemption of his nephew Theon, the episode still made it mark when it came to what all happened. Not finale kinda huge, but huge nevertheless.

Without further adieu, here are the eight best takeaways from today’s episode of Game of Thrones:

1. Daenerys packs a mean punch

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

Daenerys makes a good play when she decides to demonstrate the full force of her army when everyone’s watching. During the meeting at Dragonpit, Dany brings forth her Unsullied, the Khalasar, and her now two remaining dragons. It serves no purpose to the viewer but Cersei definitely knows she’s in over her head.

2. Jon declares allegiance to House Targaryen at Dragonpit

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

While in the last episode, we saw Jon secretly and figuratively “bend the knee” for Dany, this time, he declared that he pledged to Queen Daenerys in front of all of Westeros at Dragonpit. Bet that the North isn’t going to like that… Sansa definitely doesn’t!

3. A nightmare for Cersei Lannister

Cersei can be seen getting protective about her unborn child in the last episode of GOT 7

First of all, bringing the Wight to Dragonpit was successful and everyone gets to see the horror for what it really is. The moment, the Wight charges at Cersei, she leaps out of her chair. Not only she finds herself scared, her only significant ally, Euron, abandons her, hoping to find the safe house at the Iron Islands since the White Walkers cannot swim. Well, Cersei, maybe you should have spent less time blowing up Septs and more time working on your people skills.

4. Major comeback for House Stark

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

For the first time in a long time, House Stark is seen truly united against a common enemy- Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger. Sansa, Bran and Arya overstep Littlefinger’s see-through ploy to cause a family feud and ambush him in a meeting. Accusing him of treason, tracing back to Ned Stark’s execution, and the murder of Lysa and Jon Arryn, Sansa sentences him to death and Arya happily (and swiftly) obliges.

5. Cersei is alone, again… naturally

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

Following the revelation of White Walkers and a long chat with her brother The Imp, Cersei agrees to help others beat the army of the dead. However, she later reveals it was all a lie and she hopes for the Walkers to thin out the herd for her while she takes the Seven Kingdoms. Distraught, Jaime abandons her at King’s Landing to go fight in the North as the first snowflake descends over the city.

6. The history of Jon Snow/ Sand/ Stark/ Targaryen

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

Through Bran’s Three Eyed Raven powers that he finally decided to put to use (that lazy bugger) and Sam’s knowledge of Rhaegar’s annulment and remarriage, it is revealed through a flashback that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (The Dragon and the Wolf) were married and the two had a legitimate son named Aegon Targaryen aka Jon Snow.

7. Jon and Daenerys *whispers* do it

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

While the truth is being revealed and as Bran utters the words, “He loves her and she loves him,” for Rhaegar and Lyanna, Jon visits Dany in her room and the two become one incestuous lump of a (now) canon ship people have been backing for years now.

8. Night King-Viserion destroy The Wall

Game of Thrones, Season 7 Finale

All is not happy. While Beric and Tormund maintaining a lookout at The Wall, the army of the dead arrives and it’s not just the giants to be scared of anymore. The Night King rode Viserion and through his blue fire, he destroyed The Wall as if it were nothing, allowing the army to cross over to Westeros. To be honest, he seems to better know how to use dragons for destruction than Dany. Meanwhile, people at Winterfell gotta watch out!

While it certainly wasn’t the best that Game of Thrones has thrown at us, it definitely serves as a decent setting for the show’s upcoming season 8, don’t you think?
