Microsoft is Planning to kill Paint after 32 years

Microsoft is planning to pull the plug on Paint nearly 32 years after it was first introduced back in 1985 on Windows 1.0. Good bye Paint, we'll miss you!

The time has come when we must bid adieu to one of the most loved software present on the Windows operating system– Microsoft Paint. Microsoft is planning to pull the plug on Paint nearly 32 years after it was first introduced back in 1985 on Windows 1.0.

Paint was first introduced in November 1985 as a licensed version of ZSoft Corporation’s PC Paintbrush. At the time, it only supported monochrome graphics. Paint got coloured graphics with Windows 3.0. The updated version of the software also supported BMP and PCX file formats. Later versions of Paint also supported JPEG, GIF and PNG formats and gave users to pick colours from the colour palette.

“The following features and functionalities in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update are either removed from the product in the current release (“Removed”) or are not in active development and might be removed in future releases (“Deprecated”),” Microsoft wrote in a release. The list of software that will be removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update include– Outlook Express, Reader App and Reading List among others.

Sure there is Paint 3D, which the company introduced last year with Windows 10 Creators Update. The software enables users to create 3D objects, holograms and create mixed reality objects apart from providing regular 2D drawing features. However, it is not as popular among the Windows users as Paint, which allowed PC users create simple graphic designs without any formal training. Paint was never one of Microsoft’s ‘most capable’ software, but it was definitely one of the most popular ones.
