Apple iPhones to be Made in India now!

Once the production begins, India will become the third nation in the world to assemble iPhones. It clearly indicates the importance of India for Apple Inc.

Soon, the apple iPhones will be available with ‘Made in India’ tags as the Karnataka government issued a release welcoming Apple’s proposal “to commence initial manufacturing operations” in the state. Following this release, a factory will soon be set-up at Bengaluru to manufacture iPhones in India.

Earlier in December 2016, a national daily reported that Bengaluru was finalised as the assembling location by Apple Inc. but neither the company nor the state government confirmed the news.

The release, signed by the state IT minister Priyank Kharge, surfaced on February 2 and stated Apple’s intention to set up the manufacturing unit in Bengaluru that will nurture the cutting edge technology ecosystem and foster development in the state. Most probably, the production will commence from the month of June. The release further stated that the state ministers and officials had met with several senior Apple executives including Cupertino-based Priya Balasubramaniam, VP – iPhone operations, Dheeraj Chugh, director – iPhone operations, and Ali Khanafer, senior manager – government affairs (India and the Middle East).

In a statement given to the media, state IT minister Kharge said that the government made efforts to directly reach to Apple and wanted to create a conducive environment for them.

Wistron, a Taiwanese firm which manufactures the original equipment for Apple, will make the iPhones out of its facility in the city’s industrial hub of Peenya.

Once the production begins, India will become the third nation in the world to assemble iPhones. It clearly indicates the importance of India for Apple Inc.
