Yuzvendra Chahal has been playing the role of a game changer in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. His performance has been outstanding in the first three matches. However, the Pink ODI at the new Wanderers on February 10 turned out to be a bad day for the 27-year-old wrist-spinner. Chahal not only delivered the worst spell of his career so far but an unwanted overstepping during the second innings turned the game in the favour of the Proteas. Though they won all the previous games, India lost the 4th ODI by 5 wickets but still lead the series by 3-1.
The incident happened during the 18th over when the Proteas were 4 wickets down at a score of 104. Chahal delivered a perfect ball which hit the stumps after touching the ground. It didn’t bounce much which bamboozled David Miller. While Indians were celebrating another success, umpire Aleem Dar checked it for no-ball and unfortunately, Chahal’s foot had overstepped the bowling crease. It was a no-ball.

The South African dugout heaved a sigh of relief but the Men in Blue looked really annoyed. It had happened with speedster Jasprit Bumrah on several crucial occasions like 2016 World T20 semifinal and 2017 Champions Trophy final. But in case of the spin-bowler, it was not an easy thing to digest.

Though in the later overs, Chahal made a comeback and hunted down Miller, however, it was too late. As rains played spoilsport, the target for the home team was reduced to 202 which they needed to chase down in just 28 overs.

After Miller’s dismissal, Andile Phehlukwayo played the best-ever inning of his career — 23 runs off 5 balls — and shattered all the hopes of Team India winning this game. The Proteas yet again won a Pink ODI and that too in a terrific manner.
The fifth ODI is scheduled to be played on February 13 at the St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth.
