It is a big win for India at a world event, something that has eluded Sindhu since Rio, where she ended up with a silver medal

It seems Prime Minister Narendra Modi was occupied by the intensity of PV Sindhu’s Korea Open finals. 17th of September happens to be the happy birthday of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he turns 67. On the other hand, PV Sindhu is someone who brought glory to the nation by winning silver at the Rio Olympics. Avenging last months World Badminton Finals defeat, Sindhu became the first Indian to win a title in Korea in a nail-biting encounter 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 win against Nozomi Okuhara in the final. The match was a test of character and physical ability and more than that the belief. And it seems with millions praying back home for Sindhu’s win, the prayers paid dividends as she finally won a gold medal, something that had eluded her till date at world events.

Modi through the official Prime Minister’s offices’ (PMO’s) Twitter account wrote, “Congratulations to @Pvsindhu1 on emerging victorious in the Korea Open Super Series. India is immensely proud of her accomplishment.”

It is a matter of great honour that even on his birthday he did not forget about the athlete and this could lift her morale and help her in her future endeavours.

Before she headed to the feat, Ajay Jayaram was the first Indian to reach the final of Korea Open in 2015 but he came back with a silver medal.
