Meet Meghana Reddy Gundlapally, India's newest rhythmic gymnast sensation

After her performance in the trials, Meghana is now one of the strongest contenders in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

For the Indians, rhythmic gymnastics was quite an unknown fact until Hyderabad’s Meghana Reddy Gundlapally stunned everyone with her performance in the Commonwealth Games trials held in Delhi. During the trials, she ended up scoring 54 points and qualified for CWG Games to be held on Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. She topped with a massive seven-point win over the runner-up.

Meghana has been phenomenal in her career so far. In the 2015 National games held in Kerala, she clinched a gold and a bronze. She also participated in the FIGII MTK Budapest Cup in 2015. Later, in the 8th Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics in 2016, she bagged the People’s Choice Award for her outstanding performance.

The 19-year-old girl from Telangana has been practising since she was 11 and currently, she is training under Olympian Varvara Filiou in Colombus, Ohio.

After her performance in the trials, Meghana is now one of the strongest contenders in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
