No food, no transportation to Indian girls hockey team in Australia. Probe ordered

Soon after the video went viral, social media users criticised the Indian government for not providing enough help to the players

A video showing a girls hockey team from India protesting lack of basic facilities has gone viral on social media. In the video, the team which is in Australia for the Pacific School Games can be seen crying foul treatment and blaming the authorities for not informing them about the match schedule or providing basic facilities like food and transport.

Soon after the video, which was posted yesterday, went viral, social media users criticised the Indian government for not providing enough to help the players.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) issued a clarification and said that no sanction/approval for travel has been accorded to the team coach. The SAI took to their official Twitter handle and wrote: “No Govt. Of #India sanction/approval for travel has been accorded to the team and coach featured in the video circulating on social media. Neither has @TheHockeyIndia approved or sanctioned the tour.”

The authority, however, ordered a probe. In another tweet, they wrote: Taking serious note of this, Hon. Sports Minister Col @Ra_THORe has ordered investigation and action into this matter, which has caused inconvenience and embarrassment to the girls and has brought disrepute to the nation.

Here’s the video that went viral on social media:

According to the reports, the hockey team which reported ill-treatment comprises of school girls from different parts of India playing matches against Australian school teams.
