India win 2017 Women's Hockey Asia Cup title, beat China to qualify for 2018 Hockey World Cup

India last won the title in 2004, when they beat Japan 1-0 in Delhi. India also took revenge of their 2009 defeat to China in the summit clash

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team scripted history after winning the second Asia Cup title on November 5 at Kakamigahara in Japan. The Indian eves defeated China 5-4 in the penalty shootout. The game ended previously at 1-1 after which the game stepped into the penalty shootout stage. With this victory, The Indians have booked their berth to the 2018 Hockey World Cup 2018 which going to be held in England.

Navjot Kaur scored the first goal for India in the 25th minute. Later, in the 47th minute, Tiantain Luo equalised the score by hitting a goal for China. No more goals were scored in the game thereafter and where Indian eves dominated.

India made the most of all the 5 attempts while China missed one shot and lost the game by 5-4 to India. India continued their winning streak against China as exactly a year ago, India had beaten China in the final of Asia Champions Trophy.

In the 2017 Asia Cup, the Indian eves undoubtedly remained the best performer as they won all their matches in the group stages as they beat Malaysia, Singapore, and China. They remained unbeaten in the tournament. Also, the credit goes to the newly appointed coach Harendra Singh who joined just six months back and pushed the team to for a great victory.
