Ishan Kishan Emulates MS Dhoni's Run Out Technique In Duleep Trophy 2018 Final — Watch

Well, he learned from the best

MS Dhoni’s wicketkeeping techniques are unorthodox yet effective. Wicketkeepers around the world have acknowledged Dhoni’s tendency to improvise behind the wicket which helps him stop runs, affect breathtaking run outs and stumpings. There is no denying that there are only a few years left in MS Dhoni’s international career and India will need someone to fill in his big shoes.

Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson are among the speculated wicketkeepers, (courtesy their IPL success), who could successfully don the wicketkeeping gloves. Kishan is known to seek Dhoni’s counsel every time he gets an opportunity.

In the Duleep Trophy 2018 final, he tried to emulate Dhoni’s unique style of affecting run outs. Though he could not run out the batsman but managed to hit the stumps.

Usually, wicketkeepers wait behind the wickets for the fielder’s throw but Dhoni tends to get in front and then deflect the ball towards the stumps. At times Kishan has tried to play Dhoni’s signature helicopter shot and succeeded.

The 20-year-old is yet to receive his maiden call for the national side. The Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman has been effective in T20 cricket. He did well playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2018 and for Gujarat Lions (GL) in the previous edition.

The former Indian skipper even suggested a few changes in his technique during IPL,

“Dhoni bhai saw me at the nets and walked up to me and said that I needed to curtail my attacking instincts to begin with. He believed that to play a long innings I needed to be a little more compact and I did just that. He asked me to change my stance as well and when it comes from someone like Dhoni bhai, you know you can trust his observation.”
