Diego Maradona even stopped the car from the airport to the hotel at Rajarhat area when he saw his photo on the streets

Diego Maradona’s flight has finally touched down at Kolkata. The Argentinian soccer legend is in the city of joy for a 3-day private visit, which was scheduled for September. But as they say, better late than never. Donning a smart blue T-shirt teamed with a cap, the Argentine superstar and his female companion landed past 7 PM via Dubai and headed straight to their plush hotel in New Town, Rajarhat.

From enjoying a plate full of grilled chicken to checking in to a specially-decorated suite named “Maradona Suite”, Argentine legend Diego Maradona was greeted with aplomb at a five-star hotel upon arrival.

He even stopped the car from the airport to the hotel at Rajarhat area when he saw his photo on the streets, sources close to the event revealed.

“We have prepared a giant collage with pictures of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro going by his taste and the walls of his room have his special moments,” the source said.

“He had grilled chicken and on seeing his large poster on the street at Rajarhat, stopped the car,” he added.

Argentine Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara and Cuban leader Fidel Castro are known to inspire the 1986 World Cup hero and former Napoli legend.

THE LEGENDARY WISH:

Among the clutch of events lined up in his three-day trip, Maradona also wants to visit the Mother House the headquarters of St Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity. The organisers are planning a visit on Monday afternoon.

He is also expected to play a charity match with Sourav Ganguly’s team and the event is going to be touted as ‘Dada vs Diego’, but there are speculations over whether that will happen or not.
