Another accolade! Christiano Ronaldo named 'Portugal player of the year'

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo pipped the likes of his countrymen Pepe and goalkeeper Rui Patricio to win 'Portugal player of the year'

Cristiano Ronaldo popularly known as CR7 has been winning footballing laurels like he scores goals, at the rate of naughts. He is lately guilty of receiving the ‘Portugal player of the year’. The Real Madrid star has gone from being a next door boy in the streets of Lisbon to being the toast of Portugal. He was recently voted as the best player by a online voting procedure. He has had a great 2016 and this award is just a tribute to exemplary form in 2016.

The 32-year old pipped the like of his countrymen Pepe and goalkeeper Rui Patricio. The Madrid playmaker helped Real Madrid defeat Atletico Madrid to clinch the coveted Champions League crown, with the forward netting an important penalty in the shootout in Milan after scoring 16 times en route to the decider to become the competition’s top scorer. Phenomenal feat! The prolific striker also helped Portugal to their first big trophy at Euro 2016, seeing off hosts France 1-0 after extra-time in the final in Paris even after being sent off after the first half.

On winning the title the Portuguese lethal scorer said, “I want to thank the Portuguese people again, they gave us confidence on our way to the title.”

In the past the prolific striker won the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best award to cap a sublime 2016.
