November 26 was not a good day for the football fraternity. A match between Ponte Preta and Vitoria at the Moises Lucarelli stadium in Campinas was abandoned 8 minutes when local fans invaded the football field during the live match. Ponte Preto conceded 3 goals in a matter of 24 minutes in the second half. The fans invaded the pitch, forcing the players to run towards the dressing room.
Security was deployed on the ground but not before the angry fans surrounded the Ponte Preta goalkeeper Aranha. Despite the outrage, the goalkeeper escaped unharmed.
Ponte Preta defender Luan Peres was highly disappointed after fans’ violent actions on the football field.
It’s regrettable what the fans did. We wanted to win and we tried our best. Now we’re not going to get the chance to finish the match. This sort of thing can’t go on.
Here’s the video of the ugly outrage of fans:
Earlier Ponte Preta defender was sent off the ground for invading the opposition player’s backside in the first half. This changed the course of the match as without the center back, Ponte Preta’s defense became vulnerable. The final scoreline read 3-2 as Ponte Preta were denied a comeback chance by their fans.
Here’s the video of the incident:
Here’s what referee Ricardo Marques had to say in his match report,
I sent off … Rodrigo … after I was informed by the fourth official that the athlete had introduced his middle finger twice between the buttocks of his adversary number 22, Santiago Trellez.
After the horrific incident, Ponte Preta got relegated from the Brazilian football championship. The recent win guarantee that they get demoted to Serie B with just one game to go in the season.
