India Under-19 team enter record books with a comprehensive win over Pakistan in the semi-finals of U-19 World Cup

Team India romped over Pakistan in the semi-final of Under-19 World Cup, beating them by a huge margin of 203 runs. With another convincing win, India reached the finals without losing a single game in the tournament. They also ended up creating a world record by surpassing Pakistan and Australia in the list. Australia had entered the list on December 29 by beating Afghanistan in the semi-finals.

Here’s the list of top three teams who have entered the final of Under-19 World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1988 –

India — 6 (2000, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2018)
Australia — 5 (1988, 2002, 2012, 2016, 2018)
Pakistan — 5 (1988, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014)

India and Australia have dominated the tournament as they have emerged victorious three times in the past, whereas Pakistan won the cup twice.

India and Australia also have a shot at surpassing each other and become the first team to win the Under-19 World Cup four times.

In the semi-final clash, Shubhman Gill also scored the second-fastest century for an Indian batsman in Under-19 World Cup. Gill reached his century off 93 balls. The record of the fastest century still belongs to Virat Kohli who reached the feat in just 74 balls against West Indies.

Gill’s century is the fastest for India in the knockouts of Under-19 World Cup. He has six consecutive 50-plus scores in Youth ODI cricket and four consecutive in the ongoing World Cup. The 18-year-old also became the first Indian batsman to hit a century against Pakistan in Under-19 World Cup.

This is India’s biggest win over Pakistan in Youth ODIs and U-19 WC (203 runs). India have dominated over every team they went up against in the tournament. The lowest margin of the win has been by 100 runs against Australia.
