Prithvi Shaw & Co receive warm welcome in Mumbai on returning with U-19 WC trophy — Watch

The BCCI had already announced a cash prize of Rs 50 lakhs for Dravid, Rs 30 lakhs to the players and Rs 20 lakhs to the support staff

The India U-19 ODI team have returned home with the world cup on February 5. The entire team, along with coach Rahul Dravid and the support staff, landed in Mumbai this afternoon and received a warm welcome. Skipper Prithvi Shaw was seen holding the trophy which India won for the record fourth time in the U-19/ Youth Cricket World Cup history.

As reported by Times Now, right after their arrival at the airport, they headed towards the team bus. The boys in blue have spent almost a month in New Zealand and won all their games, including the warm-up match against South Africa.

Meanwhile, Shaw was asked how special lifting the World Cup trophy was to which he replied,”Yeah, it was very special.” Due to the excess crowd, he couldn’t talk much and headed directly towards his residence.

It was the second time that the Indian U-19 cricket team reached the finals under the guidance of former Indian captain and wicketkeeper Rahul Dravid. In 2016, the Indian colts failed to get the trophy but this time, the bunch of fresh talent brought it back to India after 4 years.

In the final match against Australia U-19 team, Shaw won the toss and invited the opponents to bat first. Firstly, the Indian bowlers outclassed the Aussie batting line-up and bundled them for 216 in 47.2 overs. Later, opener Manjot Kalra surprised everyone with his emphatic batting performance. He knocked his first century in the tournament, helping India to win the game by 8 wickets.
