IPL 2018: Virat Kohli Joins Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma On This Embarrassing List

IPL 2018, RR v RCB: Had Virat Kohli not struggled against spin bowling he would have scored a lot more than 530 runs from 14 matches

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) missed out on reaching Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 playoffs for the second season in a row. While Virat Kohli has had a decent season with the bat, surprisingly, he has struggled against the spinners. Indian batsmen are considered to be one of the best players of spin bowling. But, in this season, Kohli got out to spinners as many as eight times this season.

After losing his wicket to Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham early on in the innings, Kohli joined Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma and former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist on the list of most dismissals to spin bowlers in a single IPL season.

Gilchrist got out to spinners eight times in the third season of IPL in 2009 whereas Rohit joined him on the list in the previous season.

Kohli’s focus has been against fast bowling of late. The 29-year-old is even skipping historic Test against Afghanistan to counter fast bowling by enrolling for Surrey County Cricket Club, his major concern seems to be against spin bowling.

Kohli was stunned by the 17-year-old Mujeeb Ur Rahman earlier in this season. He was outfoxed by a googly as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) leggie lured him into the drive and deceived him. That was followed by his bizarre dismissal to Nitish Rana.

Kohli has struggled against spin bowling whereas he has scored most of the runs against fast bowlers. Leg-spinners have been a problem for Kohli. Rashid Khan and Amit Mishra got his wicket in the previous two matches where he got out.
