IPL 2018, MI vs RR: Ajinkya Rahane Does A Jonty Rhodes To Dismiss Rohit Sharma For Golden Duck — WATCH

IPL 2018, MI vs RR: Rajasthan Royals require another 58 runs with 8 wickets and 36 balls remaining

Ajinkya Rahane affected a runout to dismiss his opposite number Rohit Sharma for a golden duck and that incident reminiscent of the iconic runout former South African player Jonty Rhodes had affected during the 1992 Cricket World Cup. In the beautiful game of cricket, there are instances that get etched in the memories and the Rahane moment has all the makings of being one. Rajasthan Royals (RR) are hosting Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match Number 21 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium where Mumbai Indians won the toss and to everyone’s surprise, opted to bat first. Mumbai Indians set up a target of 168 for Royals to chase. It was Maharashtrian Suryakumar Yadav who top-scored with 72 off 47 balls.

The incident we are talking about happened in the 16th over. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, who was slated to bat at number 4, demoted himself to 5. But when he walked out, his innings was cut short by a spectacular piece of fielding by Royals captain Rahane. The score was 136 for 3 when Sharma wanted to drop and run to get off-the-mark, it was a misjudged single, as the ball reached Rahane quicker than Rohit anticipated. Rahane charged towards the ball and in one go, picked it up and hit the stumps. All this happened in one motion. Rohit was short of his ground and it seemed he had given up by the end.

Meanwhile, as we speak, Royals require another 58 runs with 8 wickets and 36 balls remaining, which is no mean task. But with Samson set on 50-odd runs and Stokes set in the middle, they should go over the line.
